Tierra Wools is one of the one-of-a-kind interesting places nearby that make Heron Lake a fun base for exploring the area. Another is the historic Cumbres and Toltec steam railroad in Chama, billed as "America's Highest and Longest", which winds through more than 60 miles of meadows and mountains.
